There are three different hair growth cycles our bodies experience (Anagen, Catagen and Telogen).
The Anagen phase is when the hair is attached to the root and is the only point in time in which laser hair removal treatments can eliminate the hair follicle successfully.
At any given point in time, your hair is going through its specific growing phase, which is why multiple sessions are necessary to capture each hair follicle in its anagen phase! Depending on the area of the body, the growth phases vary.
The latest hair removal laser devices work effectively by destroying the hair follicle in this active (anagen) phase and it is crucial to leave sufficient break times between sessions to treat hair follicles once they re-enter the growth cycle.
For example, hair growth on the face is more rapid and it is therefore recommended to treat areas of the face every 4-5 weeks.
However, for the bikini line and other areas such as the leg or underarms, it is recommended break times of 6-8 weeks due to a slower growth phase cycle in those areas. Some areas may require breaks up to 8-10 weeks apart.
In order to achieve the best results, it is advised to have consecutive treatments at equal intervals of at least 6-8 treatments. This further depends on your skin type, hair colour, coarseness of your hair, the treatment area and overall hair growth, quantity and genetics.
Following these procedures, most of our clients experience up to 90% of hair reduction of unwanted hair.
Also, remember about maintenance treatments, especially if hair growth is related to an imbalance of hormones. All of which can be discussed between you and a qualified Beauty Therapist in salon during your laser or IPL consultation.
