As beauty, waxing & hair removal treatments become more mainstream and grow in popularity, a common question we receive from customers, clients and families is, âWhat is the minimum age for beauty treatments and services?â
Some beauty services can be quite personal, and we understand many clientele and their guardian’s may be wondering what is possible, and what isn’t. Weâre here to help clear up any questions you may have.
Some of our services – such as Body Piercing are regulated throughout Australia.
In Western Australia, you must be at least 18 years of age for body piercing and in Queensland you can get a piercing at any age. In the rest of the states of Australia, you have to be at least 16 years of age. In addition, there are strict guidelines on valid identification in most states and salons are required to keep accurate records to demonstrate that they have done all they can to not pierce minors. We have a blog all about piercing age requirements in Australia you can read here.
So, what about beauty services in general like waxing, laser, and IPL? There is no minimum age requirement?
Some services like our Brazilian & Bikini waxing styles are quite thorough, and involve waxing of intimate areas such as the labia and in-between the bottom. However, for a young girl where hair can be an arising body change after puberty, then why canât she have this service? If you are unsure if you are ready, try discussing your hair removal options with a parent or guardian. Waxing is a great option to remove hair for first-time as you are left hair free for longer periods of time unlike shaving â where you can have sharp stubble the next day. Waxing, rather than shaving, will encourage hair to grow back sparser and finer too. Read more about the shaving effect here.
There are no age requirements for laser and IPL treatment. However, we recommend starting treatments post puberty because hormonal changes during this time can affect and stimulate hair growth. If you are unsure, please consult your parent, guardian, or physician.
