Piercing troubleshooting – when it’s an emergency and what to do! If in doubt, we will check it out. Call or visit any Essential Beauty salon if you have questions about your piercing and we will do our best to help you.
Swallowing the balls or attachments of tongue piercing jewellery will usually mean they pass through your digestive system in your stools. The bar itself is a little more complicated. If you are worried it’s best to see a doctor and explain what has happened to be safe.
When this occurs and you still have the ball, try to screw it back on. A good phrase to remember is ‘righty tighty, lefty loosy’! Make sure you’ve got a good grip on both pieces, doing this with a tissue or disposable gloves can help you grip the jewellery easily.
If you have lost the ball, it is important to try and keep the bar in your piercing to keep it open. Come in and see us asap to purchase a new attachment or piece of jewellery and we will insert your jewellery for you. Remember to check the ends of your jewellery regularly to ensure they are on tight.
If your jewellery falls out, ensure you replace it immediately to keep your piercing open or come in and see us as soon as possible to help save your piercing. If your piercing is fresh – less than 2 – 4 months, the hole can close up in a matter of minutes or even seconds. Generally, the older a piercing is, the longer it will stay open without the jewellery in it. However, please come and see us so we can reinsert jewellery before you risk losing it. Some piercings can close faster than others even if you’ve had them for a long time, nose piercings or tongue piercings close very quickly.
Tips to stop nose piercing jewellery from falling out: If you toss and turn while sleeping we’d recommend sleeping with a Band-Aid over your piercing. Another option is choosing labret flatback style jewellery or a hinged ring as they are more secure than pigtail or l-shape nose studs.
Unless you really have to, do not remove your body jewellery. Changing your own jewellery can be tricky but we’re here to help! If you purchase body jewellery from us online or in salon you get a free jewellery changeover! If you do choose to change your jewellery yourself and can’t get it back in, come and see us as soon as possible to reinsert your jewellery before the piercing shrinks or closes.
If you notice skin starting to grow over your piercing or earring backing and it looks like your body is swallowing the jewellery, please come and see us immediately. It is critical that the jewellery changed before your body engulfs it completely.
If you have purchased body jewellery from us that is faulty we will replace it for you for free within a given period.
If a healed piercing becomes sore, it could be for many reasons including any irritation from either your jewellery, friction, bumping or over cleaning your piercing. Come in and see us so we can diagnose what is bothering your piercing. If in doubt, check it out we say!
