Children’s Ear Piercing

Ear piercing for babies, children and teens is something we are known for. Get your child's ears pierced safely and quickly with double operators at Essential Beauty!

Essential Beauty offers a Children’s Double Operator Ear Piercing service with our Sterilear System. Please call your local salon to make an appointment (online booking is not available for this service).

Every Children’s Double Operator Ear Piercing includes hypoallergenic jewellery, Ted the Comfort Bear and Backpack! We use our Contactless Sterilear System to pierce your child’s ears at the same time with double operators. Our hypoallergenic surgical steel jewellery is available in a range of Swarovski crystal colours and in high polished steel and 24K Gold plated.

Each of the below Swarovski colours are available in mini and regular sizes, in high polish surgical steel or 24K Gold plating. There is no extra cost – all Swarovski crystal styles are included in the price.

Identification requirements for parents of children under 16

To proceed with ear piercing for children under 16, you must accompany your child to their piercing appointment and provide valid identification.

Queensland age requirements and consent for piercings:

You can be pierced at any age, on any part of the ear or body (excluding nipple, genital and dermal piercings) by signing a consent form, you are not required to provide identification.

Legal Guardians can also provide consent:

The legal guardian needs to produce a guardianship order/court order together with an ID of the child (birth certificate or passport), to confirm the child’s name is the same child named in the guardianship order. The legal guardian needs to also provide valid identification to confirm that they are the nominated legal guardian named on the guardianship order/court order.

More about our Double Operator System

We acknowledge that young children and babies can often become overwhelmed when they get their ears pierced. For this reason, Essential Beauty has implemented an ear piercing procedure called the Double Operator Ear Piercing. This procedure is especially designed for piercings performed on children under the age of 16.

To ensure the piercing is performed safely and quickly, two Piercing Specialists will pierce your child’s ears at the same time in a single, quick procedure using our Contactless Sterilear System.

The Contactless Sterilear System uses earrings that are pre-sterilised and packaged in a single use, disposable cartridge that is loaded onto the piercing system. The pre-sterilised earring is used to pierce the ear, and at no point does the device come into contact with your child’s ears.

Things you need to know before getting your child’s ears pierced

Call your local Essential Beauty salon to make an appointment and ask for double operators by name.
Have a good idea about the colour of the jewellery you and your child want. The most popular Swarovski crystal colours are Aquamarine, Clear Crystal and Rose. For babies and little ears, we recommend the mini size studs.
Bring a distraction for your child. This could be a lolly, favourite toy, or promise to buy them a treat after the service (ice cream or a smoothie is always a good one!). Your child will also receive their very own Ted the Comfort Bear to hold in their hand during the service.
Arrive 5-10 minutes early to your appointment, to allow time to present the necessary identification and fill in a Consent Form.
Pay for the service and purchase our 2 Step Sterilear Piercing Spray System and listen to the aftercare instructions before heading into a private room. This way, your child can quickly assimilate back into day to day activity after the piercing is done.
We will place dots on your child’s ears so that you can agree on the placement of the piercing. Once you and your child are happy with the location of the piercings, two Piercing Specialists will pierce your child’s ears at the same time in a single, quick procedure using our Contactless Sterilear System.

How to look after your child’s pierced ears at home

For Children’s Ear Piercings we recommend purchasing our 2 step Sterilear Piercing Spray system to care for the piercings at home. As piercings heal, the needs of the skin will change. This system has been designed to provide optimum healing for your piercing at all stages of the healing process.

Weeks 1 & 2

Spray the pierced area with Sterilear Step 1: Clean Piercing Spray 2–3 times a day. It is important that you or your child do not twist, turn or rotate the jewellery or touch the piercing, as this will remove the healing scab and may spread bacteria.

Weeks 3 & 4

Use Sterilear Step 2: Care Piercing Spray 1–2 times a day to promote healing and to ensure a bacteria-free environment.

Avoid: Dettol, peroxides, disinfectants, soaps, tea tree oil and alcohol.

Piercing healing time is different depending on the part of your body that you get pierced. Areas that are softer, with no cartilage such as ear lobes will heal faster than other areas. Healing times can vary from person to person and will also depend on how well you follow our recommended aftercare instructions.

In most cases, you will be able to change your child’s jewellery 1 – 2 months post piercing, although it is best to leave jewellery in for as long as possible. If you are unsure, visit us in salon for a piercing healing check up!

Can I have my child's ears pierced with the needle method?

If you would prefer the needle method of piercing for your child’s earlobes, this is a service selected Essential Beauty salons offer for an additional cost.

There are benefits to both piercing methods. Essential Beauty promotes our Sterilear Piercing System over needle piercing for young children and babies. This is because it is a faster method, creating an easier experience for your child’s first piercing. Our Sterilear system is contactless; sterilised jewellery is very quickly inserted into the ear lobe via our push through hand piece.

This is comparative to our needle piercing method. This method takes longer because the piercing needs to be done first, leaving a plastic sheath in the ear that the jewellery is then threaded through. Not all children and babies can sit still long enough for this to occur quickly.

The benefit to needle piercings is having the option of getting pierced with a ring put in from the start. Rings can promote faster healing and is also easier for parents to clean, some parents may have difficulty cleaning behind the large butterfly backings on their children’s earrings. Rings are also comfortable for babies and small children to sleep in as the jewellery does not have any obstructions.

How old does my child need to be before getting their ears pierced?

We recommend waiting until your child is at least 6 weeks old before getting their ears pierced, however, this does depend on the shape and size of your baby’s ears. If you are unsure if your child’s ears are ready to be pierced, we recommend asking one of our experienced Piercing Specialists in salon. ⁠There is no right age to get your child’s ears pierced, the right time is whenever you feel that they’re ready!

To book in for a Children’s Ear Piercing appointment, you will need to call the local salon to secure an appointment. Unfortunately, we are unable to book this appointment online.

How do I book Children's Ear Piercing?

Online booking is not available for Children’s Ear Piercing as the service requires two staff members to be booked at the same time, please call your local salon to make an appointment.

Does children’s ear piercing hurt?

Ear piercing on a baby or child does not hurt. However, children can become overwhelmed with the “build up” before the piercing. In addition, being near unfamiliar adults can also be a little stressful. This is why it is important to follow our recommended procedures. They allow the process to happen seamlessly, and get you and your child back into your day-to-day routine quickly. Our Piercing Specialists are trained to help you and your child feel as comfortable as possible during the experience, Ted the Comfort Bear helps out too!

When can I change my child’s jewellery?

It is best to leave the initial piercing jewellery in until the initial healing period has passed. The average healing time for ear lobes is 6-8 weeks, this is a guide and may vary between each individual. We have such a huge range of different colours and styles available for Children’s Ear Piercing! It is important that you do not change jewellery before this period of time has passed, it is important to note that lobe piercings can take even longer to heal in some instances and it’s always best to check with a piercer in salon if you’re unsure.

If you are confident that the piercing has healed enough to change the jewellery over, it is important that you do not leave jewellery out of the piercing for long periods of time as the piercing can start to close almost immediately after the jewellery has been removed.
