Face Waxing

Peach fuzz? Your guide to face waxing.

Waxing can leave your face smooth and hair free for weeks! A face full of unwanted hair can be an annoyance for many people. boost your confidence by waxing away the peach fuzz (superfluous and vellus hair)! The most common facial waxing areas are the eyebrows, upper lip and chin, but the full-face wax is on the rise due to the numerous benefits it can have for your skin, makeup application and most importantly your confidence!

Waxing not only helps you to say goodbye to peach fuzz but it also exfoliates your skin, which helps skincare and serums become more effective due to their ability to penetrate into deeper layers of the skin. Your new smooth canvas will also help makeup apply smoother, without getting trapped in those fine face hairs.

The benefit of waxing that we all know and love is it takes away the hair from the root and lessens your hair growth over time.

What’s included in a full face wax?

Benefits of face waxing

  1. Waxing removes the facial hair from the root as opposed to cutting it off at the surface compared to other hair removal methods. This causes the hair to grow back smoothly, with a fine, tapered end and leaves you razor rash and sharp stubble free.
  2. With regular face waxing less hair will grow back and your hair will grow back finer.
  3. Waxing is precise, our Sensitive Hot Wax and Strip Wax can even pick up the short, fine vellus hairs from the roots. This means your skin will stay smoother for longer periods over time compared to other methods.
  4. Exfoliation! Waxing is effective for exfoliating the skin, removing dead skin cells along with the hair. This can make your skin look brighter, healthier and younger and helps skincare and serums become more effective due to their ability to penetrate into deeper layers of the skin. Your new smooth canvas will also help makeup apply smoother, without getting trapped in those fine face hairs.
  5. With waxing you get long lasting results. Waxing lasts 2 to 3 weeks longer than other forms of facial hair removal. Just wax and forget. Perfect!

Sensitive Hot Wax for the face

Our unique Sensitive Hot Wax has been specially formulated to be gentle on the skin while being just as effective as strip wax. It can take a little longer, but if you find you experience redness or breakouts post wax Sensitive Hot Wax is the best option for you! Sensitive Hot Wax grips to the hair and not the skin, making it gentler on sensitive areas like the face or bikini! We recommend Sensitive Hot Wax for first timers – especially if you’re worried about pain or discomfort.

Parts of the face to get waxed

Eyebrows:

When you have shapely, well-groomed brows that suit your face, your features appear balanced and your eyes pop! Read more about how our 4 Zone Brow Waxing technique used to help you achieve beautiful, symmetrical brows, customised to suit your style!

Lip:

A top lip wax is one of our most popular services! Noticeable peach fuzz on the top lip can cause a dark shadow, especially when makeup is applied over the top. Waxing is the best way to keep this area feeling silky smooth. This location may also be referred to as an upper lip wax, or a moustache wax.

Chin:

The chin can be known to have thicker, coarser hair with stronger roots making waxing, the optimum choice for hair removal over other techniques. In females, hair growth, including chin hair is impacted by distinct hormonal phases. Starting with puberty, during pregnancy, and through menopause, shifts in hormone levels can change hair growth. This is why you might notice chin hairs today, that weren’t there before!

Cheeks:

The hair on the cheek and sideburns can be difficult to remove also because it is fine and light peach fuzz vellus hair. Waxing can assist in this regard because it can extract every last strand of facial peach fuzz and you won’t be left with sharp, prickly hair when it grows back!

Forehead and hairline:

Waxing the hairline and forehead will give you a clean and perfect line between your eyebrows and your hair. Also, it will give you the added benefit that hair returning in the future, will be finer and consequently be easier to manage.

Nose:

Nose hairs can become long, unruly and stick out. Our focus is to wax the outer edge of your nostrils and to some degree, the inner nostril. It is important to see one of our waxing professionals because of this sensitive area to ensure that you do not remove too much hair. Remember, nose hairs do have purpose, but often need to be managed.

Ears:

Many people find themselves in need of removing hairs from the ear and waxing is the best option to do so. The ear can be very sensitive to remove hairs from, we recommend visiting the waxing specialists at Essential Beauty for precise and expert hair removal.

How to prepare for face waxing

If you are using prescribed medications such as Roaccutane or high strength topical Vitamin A, your skin will not be in the condition to receive a wax. You will need to wait a minimum 6 months after taking these medications before having any kind of waxing.

2 Weeks before:

We recommend that you don’t have any chemical or laser peels, microdermabrasion, filler or anti-wrinkle injections and stop the use of topical skincare containing Retinol, Retin-A, Hydroquinone or Steroids to help prevent skin lift. If you are prone to skin lift or have thinning or aging skin

1 Week before:

Avoid using any AHA/BHA exfoliating products, or harsh granular scrubs.

On the day:

Avoid heavy moisturisers and makeup when possible. You may be slightly pink after your wax, but it is best to avoid makeup for the entire day to prevent bacteria entering the skin.

How to care for your skin after a face wax

Immediately after your wax, try Soothe Hydrating & Cooling Serum. Soothe has been formulated to relieve and replenish skin post wax. Soothe not only is a great post-wax solution, it is also a fantastic daily moisturiser, particularly for oily-skin types.

We recommend to avoid using skincare products that contain AHAs, Retinol or exfoliating agents for one week after your wax.

We recommend the Dalton Sun Care sunscreen UVA/UVB Protection cream SPF 50+ after all waxing treatments to prevent sun damage by direct sun exposure.

You may experience some redness post facial waxing, but it is best to avoid covering it up with makeup for at least 6 hours after your treatment as your hair follicles are still open, making them more susceptible to bacteria entering. It is best to resume your usual makeup routine the next day.

Will face waxing make me break out?

When you get a wax, some of your skin on the surface gets removed, meaning your pores are left exposed. This is why some people are prone to breakouts and pimples. Therefore, it is important to not touch your face after face waxing. Keep your skin clean and free of any bacteria that can enter your open pores. Following our recommended waxing preparation and aftercare will help keep your skin silky smooth and bump free!

We recommend our Soothe Hydrating & Cooling Serum to relieve and replenish sensitive skin from waxing. Soothe is safe to use on the face as a daily serum, particularly if you are prone to breakouts. Soothe will help to balance oil production and protect your skin’s barrier.

How long does face waxing last?

Face waxing will leave you feeling silky smooth for 2 to 3 weeks before you begin to see regrowth. As your hair was ripped out from the root, your hair will grow back fine and tapered on the ends – not like sharp stubble caused by other forms of hair removal such as shaving or dermaplaning. As you wax your face more regularly, the amount and density of hair decreases.

What are the benefits of face waxing?

Face waxing leaves your skin silky and smooth for 2-3 weeks! By removing thick, stubborn growth and all the fine vellus hairs (peach fuzz), it makes the perfect blank canvas for makeup. Waxing also removes all hairs from the root, causing the hair follicles to weaken over time, which eventually leads to less growth!  Facial waxing also assists in the absorption of skincare, as no product is left on the surface surrounding the hairs.

Some popular face waxing styles include the eyebrows, upper lip (moustache wax), chin, sideburns, forehead and more!
